Revisions to the Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations (1994) (CDM 94) are expected to come into force in April 2007.
Construction remains a disproportionately dangerous industry where improvements in health and safety are urgently needed. The improvements require significant and permanent changes in duty holder attitudes and behaviour. Since CDM 94 was introduced in 1995, concerns have been raised that their complexity and the bureaucratic approach of many duty holders, frustrate the Regulations underlying health and safety objectives.
The new, simplified CDM Regulations will revise and bring together the existing CDM 1994 and the Construction (Health Safety and Welfare) (CHSW) Regulations 1996 into a single regulatory package.
The new CDM Regulations offer an opportunity for a step change in health and safety performance and will be used to re-emphasise the health, safety and broader business benefits of a well managed and co-ordinated approach to the management of health and safety in construction.
No previous knowledge of CDM 94 or the Construction Regulations is assumed and a full explanation of the duties placed on Clients, Designers, Contractors and the new role of Project Coordinator which replaces the Planning Supervisor will be given.
For those requiring an update from CDM 94 the course offers a full refresher with all the Regulations reviewed and the legislative changes highlighted.
Aimed at: Anyone directly or indirectly involved with CDM - including construction professionals, facilities managers, manufacturing managers and health and safety professionals.
