Occupational ill-health compensation claims are the cause of huge losses to insurers. Many ELI insurers will now audit companies and make insurance conditional upon management improvements or will refuse to insure a company with poor standards.
Employees and the public are more aware of their right to compensation if an accident or ill health occurs, and advertisements on TV and in newspapers encourage individuals to claim. The statute of limitations for ill health claims starts from the moment of diagnosis- not the time of exposure- and can be delayed for many years.
Occupational health and hygiene is a subject which probably causes more difficulties in terms of understanding for managers and supervisors than any other. This course aims to present the basic principles in easily understood terms and enable simple workplace assessments to be done.
Key Topics
• An introduction to the range of occupational health hazards- noise, vibration, chemical hazards, ergonomics
• How to begin assessment and evaluation of long term risks
• Prevention and control of risks to health
• The role of personal protective equipment
Who should attend this course?
Managers and supervisors with a responsibility for managing people at risk from occupational health problems. No prior knowledge of chemistry or biology is assumed.
